· Animals improperly slaughtered or dead before slaughtering
· Animals killed in the name of anyone other than ALLAH (God)
· Alcohol and intoxicants
· Carnivorous animals, birds of prey and land animals without external ears
· Blood and blood by-products
· Foods contaminated with any of the above products

Definition of Zabiha

The term zabiha comes from the Arabic root zabaha , which means "to kill (by slitting the throat); to slaughter, butcher, to murder, slay; to sacrifice." So, zabiha meat is meat slaughtered by slitting the throat of the animal. In this context, however, it is used to mean meat slaughtered by a Muslim using the properly prescribed method as is indicated in the Sunnat-an-Nabi (life example of the Prophet, upon whom be peace).

The meat that is halal to Muslims is described by Allah in the Qur'an

Forbidden to you (for food) are: dead meat, blood, the flesh of swine, and that on which hath been invoked the name of other than Allah; that which hath been killed by strangling, or by a violent blow, or by a headlong fall, or by being gored to death; that which hath been (partly) eaten by a wild animal; unless ye are able to slaughter it (in due form); that which is sacrificed on stone (altars); (forbidden) also is the division (of meat) by raffling with arrows: that is impiety…" (Qur'an 5:3)
